    Independent contractor to multiple companies, non-profit organizations, and international agencies. Specializing in software quality assurance, testing, data analysis, data organization, survey construction, hardware and software configuration, Web site design and administration. Clients have included: LexisNexis Interface Software, DNA Digital Media Group, Ounce of Prevention Fund, The Map Room, The Vintage Ballist, Borland Software Corporation, ZEFER Corporation (now Niteo Partners), SPSS Inc., Chicago Software Association (now the Illinois IT Association), Goose Island Beer Company, Three Floyds Brewing LLC, French Government Tourist Office, Chicago Park District (Westrec Marinas/Chicago Harbors), Leo Burnett USA (Walt Disney World), The Gallup Organization (Anheuser-Busch, Inc.), Iris Krieg and Associates (Polk Brothers Foundation). Maintained corporate software defect tracking system. General advisor for department on software testing methodology. Participated in testing and certification of company’s products on: MS/Windows, Macintosh, Motif (AIX, Sun Solaris, SCO, HP-UX, Digital UNIX).

  • January 1990 to February 1993: QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER, SPSS Inc., Chicago, Illinois

    Directed 12-person department responsible for independent testing, validation, verification, and certification of all SPSS Inc. software products for statistical and data analysis. Reported directly to Senior Vice President, Software Development. Developed and maintained testing standards. Responsible for review and acquisition of testing tools for GUI products, defect tracking. Annual budget, $500,000. Operating systems included: MS/Windows, Macintosh, MS/DOS, OS/2, DEC VAX/VMS, IBM VM/CMS, IBM MVS, multiple UNIX platforms.

  • March 1989 to January 1990: SOFTWARE TESTING MANAGER, SPSS Inc., Chicago, Illinois

    Supervised testing of SPSS product line on MS/DOS, OS/2, and Macintosh; graphics product on DEC VAX/VMS, IBM VM/CMS, IBM MVS, and UNIX systems. Directed staff of four, including training and performance review. Provided back-up technical support to other corporate divisions.

  • October 1984 to March 1989: QUALITY ASSURANCE ANALYST, SPSS Inc., Chicago, Illinois

    Responsible for quality assurance planning and testing of most SPSS software products. Project management responsibilities included supervision of other staff. Involved in some feature design and review. Helped establish testing strategies within new formal QA Department and trained newer staff in test methodology. Developed test plans and reports in accordance with IEEE standards. Operating systems included: Unix, MS/DOS, IBM VM/CMS, IBM MVS, DEC VAX/VMS, PrimOS, Honeywell GCOS and CP-6, Data General AOS.

  • October 1981 to September 1984: PROGRAMMING TESTER, SPSS Inc., Chicago, Illinois

    First full-time software tester in development organization. Tested selected statistical procedures as assigned by Director of Software Development. Operating systems included IBM OS/SVS, IBM VM/CMS, DEC-10, DEC-20, PrimOS.

  • October 1981 to September 1984: COMPUTER OPERATOR, SPSS Inc., Chicago, Illinois

    Part-time duty as back-up operator on IBM 4341 (later 4381) running VM/CMS, Prime 550 running PrimOS. Duties included general system hardware maintenance, back-ups, tape production, and tape library maintenance.

  • July 1979 to September 1981: EXECUTIVE COORDINATOR, ISSUE Inc., Chicago, Illinois

    First full-time association manager of not-for-profit professional organization for SPSS Inc. software users. Was only staff member during tenure. Coordinated virtually all activities of organization, including annual conference, quarterly newsletter, membership expansion, annual elections, and general administrative tasks. Liaison to elected eleven-member Governing Council.

  • February 1979 to July 1979: TRAINING ADMINISTRATOR, SPSS Inc., Chicago, Illinois

    Responsible for most administrative and logistical details for SPSS-sponsored training seminars. Coordinated registration and assisted in preparation of training materials. Included site selection, site logistics, and program organization. Occasionally conducted seminars in data analysis techniques with SPSS Inc. software.

  • January 1979 to June 1979: INSTRUCTOR OF POLITICAL SCIENCE, Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois

    Part-time appointment in the Department of Political Science. Taught course in comparative politics of the Middle East and North Africa, designed for Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students.
